How to Find Your Frame Size | Eyeglasses Sizing & Fit Guide
Finding your perfect frame size is just like checking the size tag on a favorite t-shirt!
Whether you already have a pair of glasses or are buying your very first pair, use this simple guide to find your perfect fit in less than a minute.
Path A: I already wear glasses (And can see the numbers)
Look inside the temple arm (the side piece) of your current frames. You will see three numbers printed there, usually looking something like this: 53 ▢ 18 — 140.
Here is what those numbers mean in millimeters (mm):
First Number (e.g., 53): Lens Width. The horizontal width of one lens.
Second Number (e.g., 18): Bridge Width. The distance between the two lenses across your nose.
Third Number (e.g., 140): Temple Length. The total length of the side arm.
Sizing reference chart
| Sizing Bracket | Lens Width | Bridge Width | Temple Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Narrow | 42 - 48 mm | 16 - 17 mm | 130 - 135 mm |
| Average | 49 - 52 mm | 18 - 19 mm | 136 - 140 mm |
| Wide | 53 - 58 mm | 20 - 22 mm | 141 - 150 mm |
Path B: My numbers rubbed off (Or I don't own glasses!)
Choose the scenario below that applies to you:
Scenario 1: Your numbers rubbed off your current glasses. Grab a standard ruler or tape measure that shows millimeters (mm). Lay your glasses flat and measure straight across the widest part of just one lens. That number is your Lens Width. Match that number to our Sizing Reference Chart above!
Scenario 2: You have never owned a pair of glasses before. Use the "Safe Bet" Rule and choose an Average size frame. Over 80% of adults wear an Average size frame comfortably. It is the standard global average for a reason! Unless you already know you have a uniquely small or wide face, ordering an Average frame is a very safe choice.
Path C: How should my glasses actually feel?
Fit isn't just about the numbers; it's about comfort! When you try on your new glasses, use this quick checklist to make sure they fit perfectly:
No Squeezing: The side arms should rest gently behind your ears. If they pinch the sides of your head, the frames are narrow for your head (you need to size up to Average or Wide).
Centered Eyes: Look straight into a mirror. Your eyes should sit almost perfectly in the middle of each lens, not way off to the left or right.
No Sliding: When you look down or nod your head, your glasses should stay firmly in place. If they slide down your nose, the frames are too too wide for your face (you need to size down or look for a Low Bridge Fit).
💡 Tip for Low Nose Bridges:
If glasses always slide down your nose, or constantly hit your eyelashes and cheeks, look for frames labeled Low Bridge Fit (sometimes called Alternative Fit).
Sizing Hack: If you have a low bridge, try to choose frames that have adjustable metal nose pads rather than solid, built-in plastic ones. You can easily bend adjustable nose pads to pinch your nose perfectly so your glasses stay put!
