Can I use the same prescription for eyeglasses and contact lenses?

In short: No, glasses and contact lens prescriptions are not interchangeable.

You cannot use a glasses prescription to order contact lenses, and you cannot use a contact lens prescription to order glasses.

Why Are They Different?

Even though your eyes are the same, your glasses and contacts require entirely different measurements for two major reasons:

📍 1. Distance From Your Eye (Power)

  • Glasses sit about 12 millimeters away from your eyes.

  • Contact Lenses sit directly on your eyeballs.

📐 2. Physical Fit & Dimensions

A pair of glasses sits on your nose and ears. A contact lens is a medical device that physically floats on your eye. Because of this, a contact lens prescription requires extra measurements that glasses prescriptions don't have:

  • Base Curve (BC): The curvature of your eye (so the lens doesn't fall out or squeeze your eye).

  • Diameter (DIA): The overall width of the lens.

  • Brand/Manufacturer: Unlike glasses frames, your doctor must prescribe the specific brand of contacts (e.g., Acuvue, Biofinity) that fits your eye's unique shape and oxygen needs safely.

Can You "Convert" My Glasses Prescription to Contacts?

Unfortunately, no. Our team and laboratory cannot legally convert or translate a glasses prescription into a contact lens prescription.

To get contact lenses, you must specifically ask your eye doctor for a Contact Lens Fitting. They will measure the physical shape of your eye, test how a trial lens sits on your eye, and write a dedicated contact lens prescription.
