How to read my contact lens prescription?
Every doctor’s prescription form looks a little different, but they all include the same key details. Here is what you’ll see on your contact lens prescription:
Your Name & Date: Your full name, plus the exam date or expiration date.
Doctor / Clinic Info: Your eye doctor’s contact details and official signature.
Brand Name: The exact brand prescribed by your doctor (for example, Acuvue, Dailies, or Biofinity).
- Doctor's signature
Power / Sphere (SPH): The strength of your prescription (shown as a plus (+) or minus (-) number).
Base Curve (BC): The shape of the lens (usually a small number like 8.4, 8.6, or 9.0).
Diameter (DIA): The size of the lens (usually a number like 13.8 to 14.5).
💡 Have Astigmatism (Toric Lenses)? If your lenses say Toric or For Astigmatism, you’ll also see two extra numbers listed as Cylinder (CYL) and Axis.
💡 Wear Multifocals? You’ll see an ADD power listed as Low, Medium, High, or a (+) number.
