What Types of Progressive Lenses Do You Offer? | Limits & Options

If you need clear vision at all distances without the visible lines of traditional bifocals, progressive lenses are for you! Below is a quick guide to how our progressive lenses work, the options we offer, and how to get used to wearing them.

🚨 Must-Know Before Ordering: The "ADD" Value Rule

Progressive lenses are a doctor-prescribed vision solution, not an optional lens coating or upgrade (like blue-light filtering or anti-glare).

  • The "ADD" Value is Mandatory: To order progressive lenses, your physical prescription sheet must include a specific medical number labeled ADD (short for "Addition"). This represents your prescribed reading magnification.
  • No "ADD" Value on Your Sheet? If your doctor did not write an ADD number on your prescription, you do not need multifocal lenses and should choose Single-Vision instead. Our laboratory cannot manufacture progressive lenses without this exact medical number.

Our Pairfect™ Progressive Lens Options

Lens Type Best For Vision Zones Covered Can I Drive With Them?
Standard Progressive Lenses Everyday, all-around wear Distance (driving) + Intermediate (computer) + Near (reading) ✅ YES
Progressive Office Lenses Workplace & desk environments Intermediate (computer) + Near (reading/desk work) ❌ NO (No distance zone!)

⚠️ Safety Warning for Office Lenses: Progressive Office Lenses are strictly customized for computer screens and reading distances. Because they do not have a far-distance zone, they are NOT safe for driving or walking around outdoors.

How to Wear Progressives & The Adaptation Period

If this is your first pair of progressive lenses, your eyes and brain need time to adapt! This is completely normal.

  • Expect an Adjustment Period: It typically takes 3 to 14 days for your brain to get used to navigating the different vision zones.
  • Point Your Nose, Not Just Your Eyes: Because progressive lenses have soft blurriness at the far outer edges, do not look out the side of your eyes. Turn your head so your nose points directly at what you want to look at.
  • Look Through the Correct Zone:
    • Top of the lens: Look straight ahead for Distance (driving, TV).
    • Middle of the lens: Look slightly down for Intermediate (computer screen, car dashboard).
    • Bottom of the lens: Lower your gaze for Near (reading a book, phone).

💡 Quick Fit Test: If reading close-up text feels a little off, try gently lifting the frame up or resting it slightly lower on your nose with your fingers. If lifting it slightly makes the text crystal clear, your segment height may just need a minor adjustment!

Prescription Limits & Segment (Fitting) Height

To ensure your progressive lenses line up perfectly with your eyes, our optical laboratory operates under these precise parameters:

  • Maximum Magnification Limit: We can fill a maximum ADD value of up to +4.00 for progressive lenses (and up to +3.00 to +3.50 for lined bifocals).
  • Automatic Fitting Height: Every frame on our website features an expert-calculated default Segment Height based on its specific shape. This works perfectly for 99% of wearers.
  • Custom Segment Height: If your eye doctor provided a specific Segment Height measurement, our lab can adjust our default height up or down by up to 4mm to match your specs. Simply type your custom height into the "Additional Comments" box directly below the prescription form during checkout (e.g., "Set Segment Height to 18mm")..
