What Are Bifocal Lenses & What Types Do You Offer?
If you need help seeing clearly both far away and up close, bifocals are a classic, reliable option. Below is a simple breakdown of how our bifocals work, what styles we offer, and how to know if they are right for your prescription.
How Do Bifocal Lenses Work?
Unlike progressive lenses (which have no visible lines), bifocals have a distinct, visible horizontal line running across the lower portion of the lens. This line separates two completely different prescription zones:
The Upper Zone (Distance): Look straight ahead through this part of the lens for activities like driving, watching TV, or walking.
The Lower Zone (Reading): Look downward through this part of the lens for close-up tasks like reading a book, using your phone, or doing desk work.
We Exclusively Produce Flat-Top Bifocals
We offer Flat-Top bifocals (sometimes called "D-segment" bifocals).

On a Flat-Top lens, the reading section looks like a small, neat "half-moon" or capital letter D turned on its side at the bottom of the lens. This design is highly popular because it provides a wide, comfortable reading area while keeping the line as unobtrusive as possible.
⚠️ Looking for "Executive" Bifocals? If you are looking for bifocals where the line runs 100% of the way across the entire bottom of the lens from edge to edge, please note that we do not produce this style. We only manufacture Flat-Top bifocals.
Important Requirements Before You Order
Before selecting the bifocal option at checkout, please make sure your order meets these requirements:
The "ADD" Value is Required: Just like progressive lenses, your doctor's written prescription must include an ADD (Addition) value. This represents the magnifying power needed for your reading zone. Without this number, our lab cannot manufacture your bifocals.
Available for Sunglasses, Too! You can absolutely get our flat-top bifocals crafted as sunglasses to protect your eyes while reading outside - unless specifically restricted on a specific frame's product page.
Frequently Asked Questions
❓ Do you offer trifocal lenses?
No, we do not carry trifocal lenses (which have three distinct zones and two visible lines). If you need three fields of vision (distance, intermediate/computer, and near/reading), we highly recommend choosing our line-free Progressive Lenses instead!
