Can I Order Progressive Lenses with Any Frame? | Why Some Frames Are Blocked
The short answer is no, progressive lenses cannot be put into just any frame on our website. To make sure your custom lenses actually work correctly, the frame has to meet a specific size requirement.
The 30mm Rule: Why Size Matters
For progressive lenses to function properly, a frame must have a lens height greater than 30mm.
If a frame has a lens height of 30mm or lower, it is completely ineligible for progressive lenses.
Why this rule exists: Progressive lenses pack three different viewing zones smoothly into a single lens: your Distance zone (for looking far away while driving or walking), an Intermediate zone (for arm's-length distances like a computer screen or your car dashboard), and a Reading zone (for close-up tasks like checking your phone or reading a book). If a frame is too small or narrow, there simply isn't enough vertical room to fit all three zones. Cutting a progressive lens into a tiny frame would chop off one of these zones completely, leaving you with blurry vision.
Where to find the height: You can check the exact measurements of any frame listed directly on its product page along with its other dimensions.
Why can't I select progressives at checkout?
To save you time and prevent you from accidentally buying a frame that won't work with your prescription, our website does the heavy lifting for you.
Once you select Progressive Lenses as your vision type, our system automatically filters our inventory. Any frames that are 30mm or shorter will be blocked from view or greyed out so they cannot be mistakenly added to your cart.
💡 Tip: If a frame you love is blocked, it means it's just too small for a multifocal prescription. Use this link to browse styles that perfectly fit progressive lenses!
