How to Submit Your Eyeglasses Prescription | How Can I Send in My Prescription?
To get your new glasses to your door as fast as possible, we need a copy of your eyeglasses prescription.
🚨 Important Production Rule: Your estimated production and shipping timeline begins only AFTER your prescription is received and verified by our lab. If you select "Send Later," your order will be placed on hold until you upload your document
How to Send Us Your Prescription
You can provide your prescription during checkout or upload it after your order is placed.
Method 1: Upload an Image (Recommended for 100% Accuracy!)
This is the fastest and safest way to order! Simply take a clear photo of your physical prescription sheet or upload a PDF/image file.
Why this is best: You don't have to worry about typing the wrong numbers! Our dedicated optical experts will personally review your photo to ensure every detail - including custom doctor's notes, Prism, or special measurements - is crafted perfectly.
Method 2: Fill It Out Online (Manual Entry)
If you prefer to type the numbers yourself during checkout, select "Fill it out online" and enter the values from your paperwork:
- SPH (Sphere): The main correction power (Look for a minus - for nearsighted or plus + for farsighted).
- CYL & AXIS: Required if you have an astigmatism (CYL always requires an AXIS number between 1 and 180).
- ADD Value: Only required for Progressive or Bifocal lenses.
(Note: If your physical paperwork has notes, line items, or Prism values that aren't on our digital form, do not guess! Switch to Method 1 and upload a photo instead).
Method 3: Use a Saved Prescription (Account Holders)
If you have a registered GlassesUSA.com account and are logged in at checkout, select "Use saved prescription." A dropdown menu will appear with details from your past orders so you can reapply your prescription with a single click.
Method 4: Send It Later (Up to 25 Days)
In a rush? Select "Send Later" at checkout to complete your order immediately. You have up to 25 days to submit your paperwork.
How to send it after checkout:
- Use the Upload Portal: Visit our on-site Prescription Upload Portal at any time.
- Reply to our Email: Reply directly to any of our automated order reminder emails with your photo attached.
📝 Document Quality Checklist: To avoid lab delays, make sure your photo or PDF (JPG, PNG, or PDF) is completely clear and shows your prescribing doctor's full name.
How to Read Your Prescription Grid
If you are verifying your physical paperwork before submitting or typing your numbers, here is what each field means:
- OD (Oculus Dexter): Parameters for your Right Eye.
- OS (Oculus Sinister): Parameters for your Left Eye.
- SPH (Sphere): The main correction strength. Nearsightedness has a minus sign (-), while farsightedness has a plus sign (+).
- CYL (Cylinder) & AXIS (Astigmatism): These two numbers always work together as a package deal to correct astigmatism. If you have a CYL value, you must also have an AXIS value (a number between 1 and 180). They will sit right next to each other on your paperwork!
- PD (Pupillary Distance): The distance in millimeters between your pupils.
- ADD (Addition): The magnifying power for close-up reading. This is a medical measurement from your doctor, not an optional upgrade. An ADD value is required to purchase Progressive or Bifocal lenses. If your doctor did not write an ADD value on your sheet, multifocal lenses cannot be ordered.
Frequently Asked Prescription Questions
Do eyeglasses prescriptions expire?
For eyeglasses orders, we do not enforce or check expiration dates. As long as you are happy with your current vision clarity and your eye doctor has not instructed otherwise, we will craft your glasses using the parameters you provide.
📌 Note: By federal law, this policy does not apply to contact lenses. Expired contact lens prescriptions cannot be accepted.
Why can't I add a prescription to certain frames?
If you only see an "Add to Cart" button without an option to select lenses, those specific frames are sold as non-prescription only (e.g., brand-original sunglasses). If you need custom prescription lenses, choose any frame featuring the white "Select Lenses" button!
What is the strongest prescription you can craft?
Our optical laboratory can craft high-power prescriptions up to:
- Distance Vision: Up to -14.00 SPH
- Near Vision: Up to +9.00 SPH
